Bringing you creative, inspirational essentials that celebrate our beauty and culture, Mahogany caught up with feature contributor Malinda Williams, founder and CEO of She’s Got a Habit, to find out what motivates her, who empowers her, and how she celebrates her Blackness.
What was your inspiration for starting She’s Got a Habit?
I built the She’s Got a Habit Brand to inspire and encourage women to connect and support each other while cultivating habits of wellness. And to elevate and empower small business owners and consumers who endeavor to live a fabulous healthy lifestyle—mind, body and soul.
What do you hope Black women will experience when they engage with the brand?
I hope they feel uplifted, empowered, and inspired to be able to take control of their own narratives and live the life of their dreams.
How does it feel to receive support and encouragement for She’s Got a Habit from our community?
It feels empowering. It actually feels like I can grow and expand, like I am a flower and I am being well cared for, watered, and properly nurtured to bloom.
Who in your life encourages and empowers you the most?
My whole family—my husband, my parents, sisters and my sister-friends.
What advice would you give to a sister who wants to start her own business?
Don’t wait for the right time, the right money, permission or approval from anyone. Start where you are and with what you have today! All the pieces will follow. When God gives you a vision, He will follow up with a plan, but you must take the first step and trust His timing and direction.
Here at Mahogany, we’re motivated by purpose, faith, and community to celebrate Blackness 24/7. How do you celebrate yours?
I celebrate by consistently reminding myself and others to keep dreaming, keep believing, and never give up on yourself.
